We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated HSE Lead to manage and drive the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) strategy for two of our data centres in the Netherlands. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation of safety practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees, contractors, and visitors. This role requires an individual with a strong understanding of local HSE laws and industry standards, who can lead by example and maintain a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. HSE Leadership & Strategy:
    • Lead and promote the development and execution of HSE policies, procedures, and programs for both data centre locations in compliance with Dutch regulations and international standards.
    • Act as the key point of contact for all HSE-related matters, providing guidance to both operational teams and senior management.
    • Foster a culture of safety by actively engaging employees, contractors, and third-party service providers in safety initiatives.

  2. Regulatory Compliance & Audits:
    • Ensure compliance with local Dutch regulations (e.g., Arbowet, environmental laws) and industry-specific standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
    • Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to evaluate compliance and identify areas for improvement.
    • Coordinate and lead internal and external audits, preparing action plans to address any findings or deficiencies.

  3. Incident Investigation & Reporting:
    • Manage and investigate all workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
    • Maintain clear records of incidents and safety events, ensuring proper documentation is available for regulatory bodies when required.

  4. Safety Training & Awareness:
    • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees and contractors, covering areas such as emergency response, fire safety, electrical safety, and ergonomic practices.
    • Organize periodic safety drills and awareness campaigns to ensure readiness for various emergency situations (e.g., fire evacuations, medical emergencies).
    • Ensure all staff have up-to-date certifications and are well-versed in safety protocols.

  5. Risk Management & Hazard Control:
    • Identify potential hazards specific to data centre operations, such as electrical, fire, and environmental risks, and implement preventive measures.
    • Ensure proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safety devices, and emergency response equipment.
    • Collaborate with the facility management teams to ensure appropriate risk mitigation and management controls are in place.

  6. Emergency Preparedness & Response:
    • Develop, update, and test emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first-aid protocols, and fire safety drills.
    • Lead emergency response coordination and support the teams during critical situations, ensuring compliance with both local and international safety standards.

  7. Continuous Improvement & Reporting:
    • Continuously evaluate HSE performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Provide regular reports to senior management, highlighting key safety metrics, incidents, audit findings, and progress against HSE goals.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and local regulatory changes to enhance safety protocols and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in HSE management, with a proven track record in data centre or critical infrastructure environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of local Dutch regulations and international HSE standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Experience in leading HSE programs in a multi-site or complex operational environment.
  • Strong experience with risk management, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, VCA (Safety for Contractors), or equivalent are highly desirable.
