I entered oil & gas recruitment in 2012 when the booming exploration market was driven by the soaring price of oil. That all changed in 2015 when the price dropped to $45 a barrel, the consequential effect on the global E&P market was swift and dramatic with a knock on effect across UK recruitment resulting in headcount reduction and freezes. The result of this downturn not only opened my mind to the need to focus on a new market but also whether it was time to experience living in a new country.
Before making any move I need to ask myself the following questions;
- What did I want to happen in my career?
- Which location would be best for current and future growth of business / personal development?
- Where could I position myself globally?
- Which market / sector interested me the most?
- Which recruitment company would support me in this relocation?
I was lucky enough to work with an exceptional recruitment to recruitment company who gave me plenty of background advice and market information. When they introduced me to the management team at EarthStream the decision become very clear. Brett Marsh (SE Asia MD) was looking to relocate UK recruiters into his Singapore and Malaysian business to drive the renewables and technology practice forward.
