I am a staffing & recruiting entrepreneur with over 25 years’ experience of building specialist technology recruiting companies. In 1993 I founded Techpartners International a specialist technology recruiting business with offices in Europe & US and this business was acquired by Harvey Nash PLC in 2000 and I stayed on in the business until the end of 2002 to manage their US operations. In 2003 I founded James Harvard International a specialist life sciences & technology recruiting business with offices in Europe & Japan and this business was acquired by Hays PLC in 2007 and I stayed on until 2009 to oversee the roll out of that business across the Hays global office network. In 2010 I founded EarthStream as a specialist engineering & technology recruiting company focused on providing STEM skills to the energy & resources sector and this business has now evolved to a multi sector STEM recruiting specialist. My specialist management recruiting skill areas in information technology are; IT Project Management (inc Change & BA), Cloud Computing & Applications and IT Infrastructure. In engineering my key area of knowledge is Electronic, Hardware & Embedded Software Engineering.

I have successfully provided services and solutions to a number of industry sectors with probably my primary career experience has been working with technology vendors across software, hardware telecommunications and consulting services. During the course of my previous business I have gained strong exposure to the life sciences sectors across pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotechnology, medical devices and clinical research. Most recently I have gained strong knowledge of the energy & resources sectors and in particular to clean energy and clean technology.


Talk about the market you work and your perceptions of it:

I define the broad category of skills we place as STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. I define the broad category of recruiting & staffing market we work in simply as technology. Too often people refer to technology as just information technology when in fact technology encompasses our whole world from the energy we use, the medical care we need, the house we live in, the cloud we have instant access to, the car we drive (or alternative mode of transport we take), through to the building we work in and its connectivity to the rest of the world.

What values define the way you work?

My personal values are the same as EarthStream’s –  deliver excellence in everything I do, accountability, integrity, transparency, always try to exceed expectations and passionate about technology.

What excites you most about the industry?

Connected living, digital adoption and the Internet of Everything are the future catalysts for technology to become embedded in everything we do and I predict a sustained period of growth in technology, a high demand for STEM skills over the next decade and a global STEM skill shortage which as a combination provides strong long term market drivers for our services.

 What makes you passionate about working with your clients?

What makes me passionate about working clients is in a true business partnership with clients who value our service and seek to benefit from our expert knowledge and global experience. What makes me less passionate is to be an unvalued supplier in a commoditized supply chain function.

How do you believe EarthStream supports your endeavours?

EarthStream is a truly global business with offices all around the world and clients in over 60 countries. I have had a long term passion for travelling and learning how different economies and recruiting markets operate which I have built up over the last 25 years and EarthStream enables me to continue building that knowledge. The difference you gain with EarthStream versus using a purely local service provider is a global perspective on the market and a solution orientated approach based on extensive global knowledge.

What are your interests or passions outside of work?

My family and young children is about all I have time for outside of work!
